   Technology solution

THE INITIATIVE
Liguria 4.0: map of enabling technology solutions shows the applications of "4.0 technologies" developed at a regional level and/or by companies, research entities, or other organizations located in Liguria, in the national and international context.

Technology readiness levels (TRLs) from 3 to 9 are accepted!

THE MAP
The Map is a matrix consisting of rows (numbered from 1 to 11) showing the enabling technologies of the National Business Plan 4.0 and columns (ordered from letter a to letter k), relating to the application areas in which the relevant technologies are implemented. For the most part these areas refer to the Industry 4.0 Test, developed by Confindustria-Assoconsult and the Politecnico di Milano, and used by the Confindustria Digital Innovation Hubs network to assess the digital maturity of companies.

THE MODULE

The module is intended to briefly illustrate case studies; it is intended to present concrete applications rather than the solution itself in a generic way.

The 2021 edition of Connext, an exhibition and industrial partnership event organized by the Confindustria System where national and international companies will set up B2B meetings, will be held on 2 and 3 December.

The key topics of the 2021 edition will be:

– Smart Factory.
The cities of the future.
Sustainable planet
.
The person at the centre of progress
.

Given the participation of Ligurian companies during the last edition, DIH Liguria asked the organizers of the event to set up a dedicated area for the region in which Ligurian companies can have greater visibility through individual stands.

The aim is to highlight and communicate the existence of a "Ligurian innovation ecosystem", while simultaneously ensuring the visibility of individual companies and making the promotion of their products and services during the networking phase more efficient.

Research Centre and projects

Training is the main tool for adapting the world of work and, more generally, society to changes in development models and the transformation of economies. In particular, accepting the digital transition that contemporary societies are experiencing is paramount: investments in human resources and qualified skills increase the competitiveness of companies and make it easier to cope with economic shocks.

The scope of the study of the supply and demand regarding digital skills in Liguria aims to:

• make the Region a relevant player in the national and European arena in terms of the digital skills of its workforce and citizens;
• identify the digital skills that can be the subject of training;
• identify the subjects, public and private, who provide training for the purposes of the digital transition;
• research new teaching models and places for training (e.g. the growing number of academies).

As part of the "Strategic Initiatives" promoted by Fondirigenti, an analysis of the needs for the use of artificial intelligence and blockchain has been published. Sistemi Formativi Confindustria responded to the notice by involving the Confindustria DIH network. DIH Liguria has expressed interest in participating by involving 7 local companies.

DIH Liguria and T&G, a FOS Group company, won the tender in response to the European DIH-World call. The goal of the proposal is the realization of an innovative experiment capable of integrating anthropocentric technologies based on AR, IoT, AI in the solutions currently proposed by T&G to support the worker and allow him greater safety. The experiment will last for 6 months.

The project was launched on October 15, 2021 and provides coaching activities for the business model of DIH Liguria.

DIH Liguria, which has its operating office located at the Liguria Innovation Exchange (centre for digital innovation) within the Erzelli-Genoa Science Technology Park, actively supports the Great Campus project.

The Great Campus is an integrated urban area, which includes:

• buildings hosting High-Tech companies (currently 25 offices and 2,000 employees);
• public green space (currently about 30,000 square meters);
• new Polytechnic (design pending approval);
• student residence (in the design stage);
• new Ponente Hospital (in the design stage);
• residential and accommodations facilities (in the design stage).

The goal of the project is to create a new technology hub in the city of Imperia to favour the economic development of the province, thus becoming a strategic lever for business in IT.

Five common meeting rooms are planned in the hi-tech hub in which companies will be able to hold their meetings. Some spaces will be intended for co-working and also open to workers and professionals.

As part of the "Cerchio Rosso" project, developed by the Municipality of Genoa regarding the areas affected by the reconstruction of the Genoa San Giorgio Bridge, DIH Liguria supports the initiatives of companies and research centres for the construction of the "Green Factory" on the left bank of the Polcevera torrent and, in particular, the feasibility study of an Innovation Park within it.

The aim of the Innovation Park will be to increase visitors' awareness and knowledge of how technological progress has always met human needs.

Digital training

The training workshop, organized together with the University of Genoa, is aimed at entrepreneurs and top managers and offers a concise but high level perspective on the use of data for the creation of added value. The lessons, provided by University of Genoa professors and entrepreneurs of the relevant sector, are heterogeneous, technologically, economically, and operationally speaking and are provided in a highly interactive manner.

The initiative was tested by launching the first course in April and May 2019, which was structured in 3 phases including the company assessment according to the Industry 4.0 Test and ending with a visit to the Siemens TAC (Technology Application Centre) in Piacenza.

The topics were addressed by professors of the University of Genoa alternating with the testimonies of executives from Sedapta, Engineering, Softjam and Deloitte with equal amounts of time dedicated to each (50/50).

The gap between the demand for skills by companies involved in digital transformation, in particular for those that refer to the Industry 4.0 paradigm, and the number of registered students and graduates in both the three-year degree and subsequent two-year specialized courses of the University of Genoa is large.

In light of this and given the intention by Ligurian technology companies to be an active partner in a common project to motivate a greater number of students towards these subjects, contribute to the improvement of teaching, and make the integration of young people into the workforce more efficient, the Adopt a technologist initiative aims to fill that gap by setting the following objectives:

significantly increase (at least 20-25% per year) the enrolments in the Scientific and Technological Departments of the  University of Genoa for the next 5 years;
 have at least 300 graduates and technologists per year, for the next five years, willing to move to and work in Genoa, coming from other regions and/or even from abroad;
launch an initial experimentation module in the academic year 2019/2020 aimed at a minimum number of 20 students.

Subjects involved in the project: University of Genoa, Digital Innovation Hub Liguria, Ligurian technology companies, the Liguria Region.

The first edition (academic year 2019/2020) was aimed at young talents enrolled in the first year of the specialized degree courses in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Management. In agreement with the University of Genoa, the initiative offers 13 scholarships, additional training, and the possibility of internships and the development of a thesis related to the company.

Learn about the opportunities for students

DIH Liguria supports the promotion of ITS study courses, in relation to the selection of students, during the planning of the course content, and in relations with the companies as regards the conduct of internships and traineeships to facilitate the entry of candidates into the world of work..

DIH Liguria is part of the ITS-ICT Foundation of Genoa and collaborates closely with the ITSs of the provinces of Savona and La Spezia.

Conceived to support the digital transformation process of Ligurian training institutions, A.Te.N.A. is an initiative in which the Region of Liguria has invested significant resources for the enhancement of the digital training of Schools and Vocational Training Centres.

Created based on the actual needs of the industry, ATeNA, aims to support the efficient use of enabling technologies and the growth of the know-how of the participants by allowing them to build innovative and effective educational courses and a collaborative community.

It is for this reason that the Digital Innovation Hub Liguria together with ATS partners, in collaboration with the Liguria Regional School Office (USR) and the Liguria digital school initiative, is being so pro-active.

The training course is free and open to:

• Teachers of the Nursery School, Primary School and Secondary School (middle and high school).
• Instructors of Vocational Training Centres.
• School directors and Vocational or Professional School directors.
• Secondary school technical teachers.
• Teachers and ATA personnel (administrative, technical and auxiliary personnel) providing technical support activities for Primary schools

who are employees of public schools in the Liguria Region or of Macrotype A accredited Vocational Training Centres.
